Some Tips To Hit A Golf Driver Solidly

When you are new to golf, and have not been playing the game long, you probably find you can do alright playing most of the irons, and the putter of course, but then the driver takes longer to master. It is the longest club in the bag and the one with the least amount of loft.

Beginners tend to try and scoop the ball with this club, instead of sweeping it away in a long rhythmic motion. The swing with the golf driver tends to be unique to that club. You need to position yourself correctly at the address to give yourself the best chance of hitting a good drive.

That means positioning the ball just inside the left heel, which is where you will see the majority of golfers have the ball lined up. The head needs to be behind the ball at the address. By doing this you set yourself up for a powerful swing through the ball at impact.

High handicap golfers fail to realize this, which is why they hit so many bad shots with the driver. Having the head behind the ball at setup starts you off with the body weight biased toward the right side, which you need to achieve a wide swing arc.

You then transfer the weight back to the left side immediately you start the downswing, at the same time delaying uncocking the wrists, which will enable the hands to whip through the ball, generating club head speed to move the ball a good distance.

The golf swing release occurs at waist height in the downswing, and it helps to practice this action regularly, to learn what it feels like, making it easier to repeat the action on the golf course.
