Heeled Golf Shot | The Golf Slice Cause

The heeled golf shot is the one you normally play with the driver or fairway woods, and you hit the ball with the heel of the club face instead of its centre. The flight of the heeled golf shot starts low, to the left of the target and arcs round to the right. A sliced shot. in other words.

This is one of the causes of the golf swing slice.

How does it happen?

When addressing the shot with the driver, the ball is positioned too far back in the stance. That is usually the main cause. What also happens is that during the back swing, too much weight is placed on the left side, setting up what is known as the reverse pivot.

If the weight is not shifted to the right side during the back swing, there will not be as much power in the shot as there should be. To convince yourself of this, try putting your weight on your right leg, then swing at the golf ball, while keeping the weight on the right leg.

Heeled Golf Shot - The Cure

Position the ball just inside the left heel at address. This will help position your body behind the ball and set you up for a solid wooden shot, from the fairway or the tee.

As you make the back swing, let your weight shift to the right, then transfer it to the left side during the downswing and through impact. You will feel the difference this makes to the way you make contact with the ball.

As with all common golf faults, it all comes down to regularly checking the fundamentals of the game.
